got the bus on my bd jig and from these shots i really tried to capture just how wavy the raw metal was. this type of waviness isnt caused by grinding but by bad planning. there is going to have to be a lot of filler used to make this panel straight again.

The long wall was already replaced with a new Klassicfab piece while at KCW - it was mentioned in the thread that it came out awesome and was perfectly straight - what happened to it?
Was this caused by being blasted 80 times or maybe parts shifting around while in transport? That looks like someone played handball on it for months - not sure if it's poor install or got damaged since then - but that looks wasted. |

My guess would be from the heating up of the metal from plug welding... Looks like it was pushed in in spots to meet the inner structure .. pretty common.. then welded for a nice tight fit to the structure... Hard to tell if the structure was original... and if it was ever damaged in its long life time. Not an easy panel to replace with that style of welding and keeping it truly flat and straight. The factory spot welded the panels in place, and this is the proper type of welding Jason does at his shop. _________________ ***WANTED***

In 10 years on this site and reading 100's of restoration threads, I can't recall ever seeing another person/shop use that spot welder that Jason used on Gerson's BD.
I can't imagine doing that kind of panel repair/replacement for a living and plug welding and grinding! What a time killer vs. just spot welding... _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Very well put and i agree not an easy panel to replace but thank you for the very kind words. we are trying to keep them as straight as we can and make them look as original as we can. theres no sense in taking short cuts just because interior panels will coverup the metal work. you know what they say "Just because you cant see it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done correctly." _________________ Jason Stratton 407 497 9944

well we were going to try to save what was there but after seeing the condition of everything
we thought it would be best to remove everything we felt was wrong so it could be done correctly

this picture shows how close the other guys didnt get the panels together before they welded them. this is when a compression spot welder really is worth the money. make it right, make it tight.
