Hi guys! I have been working on thing to make it off road, it has a 4 inch body lift, and MT big tires on, but i want to increase the torque for off roading and hil climbing. It has the stock factory carb, but putting a single bigger carb would help with the torque? Thanks!

Get a set of duals, don't go with a single dual barrel center mount.

Hey Fransolis94,

good question, and Bashr52 had a good suggestion, duals do seem
to make a difference.

But before you buy anything, note that VW engines like certain combo's
of "Carb, distributor, exhaust" setups to run at their best.

I had no idea till I was looking into upgrading my carb for more HP,
(I have a pict 30/31 carb single port, 009 dizzy and 73 stock Thing exhaust)

well, just bumping the carb back to the pict 34 wouldnt work right due to the 009 dizzy, and thus would prob have to get a SVDA dizzy to fix that.

all said n' done, I'd prob have to spend $900 to $1000 for carb, dizy and new exhaust, to get a matched set so to speak, so I held off for now.

So "I held off" for now, (Not saying you should) but please get mo' info, and Please share, as it seems to be the certain carb/dizy/exhaust combos work for the specific usages (ie: road driving, off roading, etc).

I'd be curious personally what to decide to run with and PLEASE post some photos man!

Good luck with it all, I'd still like to do this myself, have even pondered buying a beetle to muck with to make a street ripper, (the wife says, SURE GO AHEAD) but it's in the tone of voice that I probably shouldnt! LOL Shocked

Call John at Aircooled.net. He knows as much as anyone about carbs.

Center mount carbs require pre-heat, which you'll lose when you put on a 1 3/8" header to take advantage of your new single carb. If I were you I'd first put on a decent header/muffler that you can live with, and figure out what dual carbs you are going to run, and then order up an svda distributor matched to the carbs. At this point you'll be able to justify 1.4:1 rockers. Good times.

It would be great to hear from anyone with a dual set-up, telling what size/brand carb/intake, distributor/exhaust combination they used and which possibly to avoid.

X2. I purchased my dizzy from them.

You may want to check this out on their website. For off road applications they recommend a single center mount carb.

Thanks for the info!

I read these articles and they are very informative and enlightening. Plus they are written by people who write plain English!
