Now that I've had my coffee let me correct myself.
Yes the arm spring is broken.
And I can install the cable... but the spring has to go on first lol.
Yeah..I'm awake now. |

Forgot how much I disliked working on these things without all the right maint. Equipment
What's the trick of getting the clutch arm off after removing the snap ring?
(Replacing the clutch arm spring)
I can attempt to pry hard but didn't want to damage the arm.
Any suggestions?
I have wd40. No torch. No puller. And no lift. Do have it on stands tho |

All the clutch arms I've removed in the past, required to have the outer top edge of the shaft filed down a little. I used a short 3-corner file to remove the peened-over metal that prevents the arm from sliding off the shaft. If you think that part is difficult since the trans is installed in the car, wait until you try to preload that spring onto the arm. Keep your fingers clear of the short end and the bell housing. You'll need some stout screwdrivers or a prybar for that. I'm hoping that it will all go easy for you!
Sending some positive vibes your way...
Good luck!

I keep a piece of threaded rod and a couple of cable clamps for this kind of problem. After using this method to attach the shortened cable I have not had to repair or replace the clutch cable in 6 years.
You can just clamp the rod to your broken cable and done. The threads on the threaded rod grip the cable. Does not slip. Buy a new cable for a spare.

Already threaded the new clutch cable. Gonna do the loop thing.
BUT.
The clutch arm spring is broke.
Now I'm trying to get the clutch arm off, and install the new spring. I can't get the thing to budge at all.
Half a can of wd40 and 4 hours so far. But it just will not budge at all...not even enough to get it to the edge to where I would need to file hah.
And yes, the snap ring is off...finally. been prying, beating, cursing, prying some more...beating some more.
Trying to find a small enough puller now...maybe that will work. |

Frustration has set in.
It has beaten me today. I give up. Time to step back and chill. |

To get it to start moving, wedge the tip of a flat screwdriver (or two if possible) behind it, then use a drift punch to hammer on the end of the shaft. |

Get a can of penatrating oil ,pb blaster is often recomended, then get 2 hammers, position 1 hammer against the arm at the bottom of the arm then gently tap on the opposite side, take your time,it will loosen up,and do has luckycharm said clean the end of the shaft.toss the wd 40 in the garbage can. |

I just wind the spring around the arm. I do not take the arm off to replace that spring. Kind of like spinning a bolt on. It takes some finesse with some screw drivers to flip the arm end over the arm, but about 10 minutes I have it done. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Drift punch?
This thing is still in the car...on a jack stand. I have maybe 2 feet underneath of room.
I can't see how I can get to the back side of the arm.
I tried spinning it on..quite cumbersome with the axle in the way but I did make a bit of headway ....had to release the level lockout screw and move it out a bit...
I may try that route again. Hands are quite sore this morning from this endeavor tho.
I do not have the raw strength needed I'm afraid. |

So you loop the main winding over the arm...Then pry the bottom into place I take it?
How do you get all 3 windings in place?
Guess I'm gonna just have to fell my way thru this one. Can't recall ever replacing one of these.
If anyone is close to Jackson MS and wouldn't mind showing me how to do this please do. |

Ok...I screwed the spring on there. Surprisingly easier than I anticipated. Still have the last winding to get behind the arm and the hook around the arm. |

would love to, however the pedal assembly does not want to cooperate.
I need to unbolt the master cylinder and get that rod outta the way, also the brake pedal spring came undone and now I can't find where it was connected to.
No, the haynes manual isn't clear enough on the pics.
I had the pedal assembly almost back in there, and the clutch cable came off the arm.
(would be easy if I had help holding the cable taught from the other end, but noooooo... hah) |

Use electrical tape, or masking tape to hold the cable end to the hook. Spring can be twisted around after the peddles are bolted up and into place. The spring prys off of the floor and hooks around the brake master cylinder push rod boss on the brake peddle. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

you by chance have a pic of the spring end that does not hook on the brake pedal?
You're saying it hooks on the master cylinder rod? behind the ring that the pedal pin goes into? |
