Thats a pretty interesting lug bolt. Maybe it was pressure fit
The wheels look great. I want to get mine painted sooo badly now. Good to see it coming together (again) |

Though a 1970 bug should have silver rims, I always prefer the look you have there. It really pops with that red paint job. I think the 1970 silver looked blah and boring. MOST of the public wouldn't know that anyway.
My 69 vert is suppose to have black rims with the aluminum trim. I think it looks terrible and have them painted the black and white colors that came on the 69 sedan. I think it looks MUCH better.
PS, I don't see any wheel weights? Did you get them balanced? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

As for balancing, yes, yes they are balanced. I dropped the rims off last Tuesday morning at Discount Tire, and when I came back the guy said they put the weights on the back side of the rim to keep it clean looking. Very nice of them I thought. Good eye! |
That will work fine on the back rim but can have an impact on the fronts unless the glued the weight on the far inside of the rim. Rear tires only need to be balanced statically "up and down" while the fronts also have dynamic "side to side". Typically on tall, skinny rims like bugs, you need to have weights on the outside of the rim to balance both static and dynamic. This was critical on super beetles that were VERY sensitive to the notorious shimmy. It's not nearly as bad on torsion front end bugs. Just something to keep an eye on. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

These are old school clamped weights, not glued. I'll pay attention to the way they feel. I drive a lifted Jeep Wrangler as well, and have finessed that suspension to the point it drives better than stock. I've experienced minor shimmy to full on death wobble, and vowed never to let that happen again...none of it. If you've ever lived death wobble you'll know what I mean.
Call me obsessive compulsive, but I do pay attention to the little things. Any hint of shimmy and I'll delve deeply into it to the point of being fanatical about it. I do my own alignments and all my own work, with the exception of spin balancing, though I have done it in the past, I choose to let the youngsters man handle the tires. _________________ My father's 1970 Beetle-

No way I would return that, that's going on the display shelf! _________________ "The new Volkswagen 1303. We've made so many improvements, they're beginning to show." |

I have a Savannah Beige 1970 Beetle that will eventually get a full on stock resto. It should have the wheels painted silver, but that two tone looks a LOT better! _________________ 1974 "Restfalia" Camper 2000 cc EFI 2001-
