The video says it all except that, that is a new pump that I got about 2 years ago. Also a brand new filter, lines (soft only) ,and a with a tank.

It could be that it is just cheap. I still have the original one, so I could buy a rebuild kit.

Also, sometimes after going down a road about 50 mph in 4th gear it will die when you go to a stop, but run perfectly other than that.

At first it was the belt flipping and not grabbing the generator, but I have a brand spanking new belt on so that is not the problem anymore.

I had that style of pump, I would check what your fuel pressure is. Mine would lean out at freeway speeds. I swapped to another pump that I bought some 15 years ago for my bug with an alternator conversion kit and my Ghia now runs better.

Also put the fuel filter under the car by the trans or fuel tank. When they're in the engine compartment they are known to cause or accelerate fires in there. Fuel line takes a lot more heat to burn or melt through.

Whats the status of your fuel tank, fuel sock and fuel lines?
The pumps cant pull much, they need a steady gravity flow to keep them working.
Do you see where your $1.99 fuel filter is sitting? It is directly above a source of constant spark. One drop of fuel to the dist and boom. Crying or Very sad

Something isn't right. A filter half full or air is normal, but 95% air isn't. Either the pump is sucking up air from a break in the line, or there is a tremendous restriction in the inlet and it's pulling vaccum. It's hard to believe that it doesn't run the carb dry of fuel when cruising. Unless the pump delivers more fuel at higher rpms. Still, I would check for breaks in the fuel line running into the pump, and check for restrictions in the fuel line from the tank. Perhaps test the pump by running it from a jug of gas.

Check the oil, if it's higher than the last time you checked and smells of petrol, you've got a leaky fuel pump diaphragm. I'd second moving the fuel filter, and changing the flexible hoses from the hard line coming out of the frame horn, plus in the engine, plus the one under the tank. That eliminates any collapsed or problem flexi hose.

While you're at it you could check the state of the hard line going through the tunnel to see if it flows freely. I just blew mine through with a foot air pump with a container on the framehorn end, if it runs free then no blockage there.

The usual safety caveats apply to messing around with petrol obviously!

I have new soft line, new tank, filter, and pump. When I got the car I blew through the line and a bunch of crap came out, but from then on it has been working fine.

After pulling out the dip stick and sniffing the oil, I can say that the problem is that the diaphragm is letting the gas go in the oil. I will be getting a new pump and a oil change.

Thank you to all who helped!

I got my new pump, and moved the filter under the wheel well.

The filter runs at only about 1/2 full still.... I have a half a tank full, so it makes sence Laughing .

All my lines are tight, and the pump is mechanical and not a cheapo Brazilian one.

Anyone have any ideas why I am only running half filter full?

Could it be that my car has a raked look (high back and very low front)? You said the pumps are weak.

Thanks

The filter having air in it is nothing to worry about. You will never get all of the air out of it.

Thanks. Now she is running like a top! No stalls of random to even speak of! Thanks again everyone! Who would think one pump would fail in so little miles and time! It just shows that cheap is not always better.
