So I just bought this Rabbit, my brother picked it up for me, and drove it from Illinois to Springfield, MO. The little car ran like a champ until the last 20 miles or so and started losing what little power it has on the hills. When he pulled into my driveway it smelled terribly of fuel. We popped the hood and there was a great deal of saturation going on. I am new to the diesel world (I've only owned two '69 Beetles previously), but began trouble shooting. I replaced a couple of the rubber fuel lines, the fuel/water separation filter, and restarted the car. I could immediately see fuel squirting from around the injector closest to the passenger side, and only from that one. So as not to make an even bigger mess I shut it off immediately. it was making a knocking sound which I heard would happen if an injector has bitten the dust. Is this something I can clean or should i just replace it and if so am I likely to have to replace them all. The car has had some wiring issues, but has been otherwise pretty well kept. I want to give this little car the love it deserves. I have a Haynes manual and a professional service manual for it, but can't seem to find the answer required. Can anyone help? It was squirting directly out the top where the compression nut and fuel line meet. |

If you are sure the injector line is on tight it could be a cracked flare under the gland nut . I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles in two 81 Rabbit Diesels and never had a cracked line but I read it does happen . It should be easy to see if you take it off the injector . _________________ Currently own : 1969 Beetle w/ 1600cc, Single Port, Solex 30 PICT 2, Dist. 113 905 205 T, stock exhaust.
