Besides the obvious/overt things like the logo, or the silhouette, what image would be recognizable to you as uniquely VW? Something any aircooled enthusiast could look at and know to be a reference to VW? _________________ Greg

VW got many things right with the Beetle. The defogger/defroster wasn't one of them. |

For some reason I have always associated the Iron Cross with the VW culture.

Even though you said besides the silhouette, I had to include it since not everyone thinks of the Doyle Dane Bernbach ads when thinking of the word silhouette in relation to VW.
... and this one

Lowry owned more than VWs - as a teen he had a 1929 Ford roadster pickup hot rod that he competively drag raced that was to die for... _________________ 1965 Type 1 sunroof Baja / about 70k miles on self-rebuilt '74 1600 and counting / SP heads and aftermarket valve keepers / non-doghouse shroud with external cooler and filter / 1.5 qt extended sump / Weber 32/36 DFAV progressive carb / 009 dist with Pertronix / 1.25 ratio rockers and ball adjusters / 1.5" stainless steel J-pipes and carbon steel baja exhaust |

Yes, that coconut "VW smell" |
and coconut hairs under the seats...
..... carbon monoxide poisoning , and owner and passenger induced smoke and piss.... or what the hell ever...

Thats a pretty broad range of years, lifestyles and people...
There is really no one true answer for all... but I like the idea of this topic...
So.. I treated this as first 2 things that came to mind..
#1 The "Straps"..
#2 Tie Dye..
To me... (possibly anyone born before 1985) if you say or see tie dye...= a Hippie in an old VW "Microbus" pops right in the mind..
