I have a 1776 built with Mofoco 050 heads (42 intake / 37 exhaust valves). Don't know the cam size. Want to install merged header. Would 1 5/8 be too big? Or 1 1/2" ? Daily driver

With heads that big you should run the 1 5/8.

Jfats is actually right, but for such small displacement a 1½" header would most likely do well. - Unless youre planning peak performance above 7 grand.

Yep. Being that it's a small displacement and a daily driver I'd go with the 1 1/2. All the engines I've had up to 2074 I've ran 1 1/2 inch headers. Hell my engine now only has 1 5/8. I'm assuming that you got the engine from someone else?? Just wondering what size cam is in there and why so big on the valves. Are the heads P&P'd???

It's a mofoco 1776 pro street. I'm third owner of this bug since the install. Whatever cam comes in that motor is what it has. 8 to 1 compression. If 1 5/8 will do, then I'll get those unless someone says it's bad idea. It's my daily driver

why dont you pop off the oil pump cover and take a look?? What kinda carbs you plan on running on it?? Those heads are way too big for that engine IMHO. We just used to run some cleaned up P&P'd stock heads here with a good 3 angle job on those. Just dunno how you gonna keep up intake speed. Im really wondering what the original engine builder was building it for being that the compression is only 8:1 as well. Sorry guys just thinking out loud.

FYI I've been running this motor with a single H30/31 carb without issue. Runs good on fwy too. Idles fine. Going to dual 40s now and looking to upgrade exhaust from a bug pack quiet pack with regular header.

For a daily-drive, fit the smallest 'extractor' type exhaust you can find to give that small engine all the help you can with gas velocity and torque/drivability

Anybody else wanna chime in? Called mofoco but no answer. Figured they could recommend a size since it's their motor.

Mofoco's 42x37s have such mild porting that they're basically a GOOD set of 40x35s. I'd run a 1 1/2 inch unless the cam has over 260 degrees at .050.

Just a preference thing. Kymco doesn't churn out as many as BugPack, so the coating and weld quality might be better with Kymco. Also Kymco's are made in the U.S.

Since my motor is "small displacement" what do you guys think about installing a Tri-Mil 2-tip ceramic coated. How would that decrease or increase power? I still have my heater boxes installed

You should not run a 37mm exhaust valve with stock heater boxes. Take them off immediately. Too much heat build-up will overheat the exhaust valves causing some sort of damage. A cheap Tri-Mil will not do much for your engine either. No cutting corners. You have a high performance engine. Either sell it, and bolt all that stock stuff on a stock engine or step your game up.
