would require cutting out and welding in a donor section at the very least.

You would need to be getting a smoking deal on the bus for it to be worth it

There are some guys here who cut up buses. I've bought some metal from them. Reach out and ye shall find.

I am going to say on a scale of 1-10 that is going to be a 9.
The section in black is going to need to be replaced. Behind that panel is a battery tray, engine tray, rear valance and an inner skin by the wheel arch.

I bet a good sheet metal guy could get most of that out with some dolly work. "It'll buff out" :)
How does it run?

Don't forget about the rear bumper, it is also caved in. Maybe broken bumper mounts or part of the rear frame could be broken as well.

I would get it for less then 1k. 800 tops. That rep lament doesn't look all tat bad from here. If you find the right metal guy I would imagine labor cost at about $1500. You can find donor or nos metal rep lament for that whole side. Try Gerson at Klasscfab.com or maybe VWheritage. Couldn't hurt to search busdepot site as well as autocraft. I wouldn't pass that bus up but I would offer $500.

A skilled panel beater could pull that out and massage it back to smooth, doesn't look like it's gotten into anything structural from here and doesn't appear to be rusty, nothing better than OG metal. But someone who says they can and really can't will make a hell of a mess, choose the repairman carefully. Plan B would be a corner from a donor bus.
Pull, hammer or cut doesn't really matter though because either way that won't be cheap to fix properly, and with a sick motor, bad tires and likely all the other maintenance a neglected bus will need like brakes and rubber seals that bus better be almost free even though it looks solid. It'd be a different story if it was in a part of the country where rust happens but in AZ there's still others to choose from nearby.

I think if you cut out the battery tray on that side and stuck a 4x4 block inside the tail light hole you could chain it to a tree and with some persuasion pull the dent out pretty well. Really though with a questionable power train (you might as well assume both the engine and tranny are shot) along with brakes, suspension repairs, etc that bus isn't worth more than its scrap value.

I agree with above $800-$1000. Unless...you were in the North east then that AZ bus would easily be worth $2500. But your not, talk him way down.
