Terry Kay:
Please edit your post where you liken bedbugs to Jews in the gas chamber and change it to something less offensive.

Please do not give credit for Auschwitz to the Polish, they were not responsible for inventing the gas chambers.

If you feel the need to talk this way I suggest stormfront.com as your next hangout.

Back on topic, I went to a garden store today and got a bag of “diatomaceous earth”, a natural killer for all sorts of crawling bugs. It works by sticking inside the microscopic cracks in the bug’s exoskeleton and causing them to be unable to motate. Locks up their ratchet, so to speak. I figure I will keep some in a tough ziplock and use it proactively. Totally harmless to higher animals, of which I am one.

Gnarlie ... just make sure you, nor your pets or human friends, inhale any ... even in minute quantity.

The microscopic exoskeletons of diatoms (what DE is) are, on a microscopic level, very sharp and cause havoc in the alveoli of mammalian lungs.

FYI

... taht said ... it ought to get rid of your bugs

Ah, thanks. Not totally harmless as I said, but prolonged inhalation can cause silicosis of the lungs.

Then give the critters the exhaust.
One time & done, and you don't have the chance of breathing it, after the smoke has cleared.

X-out their oxygen for 2 hours and they will be dust.

D.E. is amazing stuff.
For bugs it's like tiny razor blades that cut their body and allow moisture to escape.
Unable to retain moisture they quickly dry out and die.
I've handled it, and there's no sensation of sharpness. (my old pool/spa business)
Definitely wouldn't want to breathe it, of course.

It's always good to see some of TK's posts from a different time and place come back to the front page.

I never worry about bedbugs until I read about them and then I worry a lot.

I recall someone having access to a drive in freezer and they planned to leave the van in it for a weekend to zap the critters.

Bedbug story: a local substance use treatment facility I was working next door to had a bedbug infestation had to spend hundreds of thousands (really!) in both immediate mitigation and extensive remodeling to prevent in the future (like sealing each room like shower stall). Work crew is finishing up job and tells management well we’re about done here but have to tell you going to keep having problems because we’re watching some of the folks coming in and you know what is a favorite bedbug nesting site? Dreadlocks.

Eww. Merry Christmas!

I believe that heat is the only way to kill all of the life cycles. We had some in the apartments above our bike shop. Find a professional that guarantees their work. The one we used brought several industrial heaters and cook the whole building for almost an entire day. They followed up with a chemical treatment as well. The technician told me that bed bugs had all but been eradicated in the USA. New regulations came about and the chemical they were using was banned.

I was thinking the same thing. Every time I see a post from that ignorant fool, I celebrate the day he was banned. There are plenty of people who know a lot about a lot of things and aren't crude, bigoted a-holes. Just sayin'.

I've never come in contact with bedbugs but I saw something about them recently and got scared - I'm upping my diligence level by a factor of 10.
