OK- some observations (many thanks to Mr. Duncan who is helping me out with the top end stuff--heads, valves, and other things):

What the crap, my intakes had TWO manifold gaskets installed (can't wait for johnnypan's comment on this one)

Since you just had the intake off the last time it seems some "attention to detail" is in order.. are autostick engine oil pumps available?.. because yours is done.. clean those valves with scotchbrite and post up those valve cracks again..

I'm soaking the valves right now.

I'm replacing all 8 valves & guides regardless.

Well John, personally no, I'm dropping them off at the machine shop that we use.

Also, yes they are being replaced.

Also- it's the seat that gets 3 angles cut, and the valves get lapped. It's not a performance motor, if we wanted performance, we would cut the angles on the valves too.

Question about the oil pump-
the part I sent Mr. Duncan (the part previously pictured a few posts up) was JUST the oil pump section of the pump as far as I can tell-
there was another "section" of the pump I did NOT send him, that actually has the autostick ATF pipes attached to it:

I assume THIS is the ATF chamber, so is the part I sent Mr. Duncan JUST the oil pump section? If so, and if it's worn, would it be any different from a stock oil pump?
(Of course there's always the chance this other ATF pump section I didn't send him is worn as well, in that case obviously the whole thing needs replacing)

Intake valves are not cracked, they were made like that. That is not what a crack looks like.

Can probably use the autostick pump body with different gears and cover. Aren't they the small 21mm gear tho?? is that what you want?

I trust my machine shop guy, he has been doing it for 40 years and I've never had issues, I follow his advice. He also has been doing this work professionally for 40 years.

Thanks.

Not the WHOLE thing, no.

I am talking about just the internal chamber part of the autostick pump which pumps the oil, with a gear driven off the cam gear, just like a conventional type 1 oil pump-- this part:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

unless they are different sizes which I don't know about.
The outer chamber of my pump pumps the ATF fluid, with yet another gear driven in turn off the oil pump gear, at least from what I can tell.

Here is a picture of the outer chamber/cover part of the pump I did NOT send Mr. Duncan, with the ATF pipes still attached:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

This section would not be on the conventional oil pump, but it looked like the rest of the pump was very similar to a conventional oil pump. Again unless they are different sizes- I could be wrong. Don't know enough about it.

Well, there are two locating bosses on the ATF side.

Anything is possible... I'll look into it!

Thanks man!

I'll trust your machine guy, 40 years + with no issues, can't ask for more...

How have most of you other folks that have rebuilt engines and are following this thread done the valves? Just curious
