|
|
I'm trying to correct the rear fenders on my 63 vert which have been raised/cut away. In order that I weld the replacement arch panel correctly (or close as possible to it), could someone with a 63 vert (because I think this varies based on year) please provide the two measurements below from the centerline of the top of the rear fender up to the ridge line of the body? This will let me know where to weld the arch.

Anyone got a tape measure? New replacement rust repair panels going on tomorrow and I'd really like to have an accurate 63 measurement so this thing goes on right. |

Scott!!! You rock man.
What year is this fender?
So it looks like measurement #1 in my photo 14 5/8 and measurement # 2 in 12 1/2 right? |

Yes sir, couldn't get to other fender still in mop up mode here. Was nice to take a break and try and help. Fender is a lowlight coupe. _________________ If you take time to do it, do it right and don't be so damn cheap.....🤙🏻

Well my next question is going to be: does the lowlight rear fender have the same measurements as my 63? |

Curve total in inches I get is 36". Measured from bottom radius of torsion cover hole, to center of bumper hole. Used soft tape and magnets to hold on the curve.

Hi Scott - do you know if the lowlight coupe fender measurements would be the same on a 63 vert? |

I realize the question was not addressed to me, but I just measured my '61 coupe and the dimensions are similar to those that Scott gave you. If uncertain, I would suggest finding a '60-'66 locally and tracing a cardboard or paper template. I can only assume that a coupe and convertible would be the same. |

I knew the day would come when you'd finally run out of Cleco fasteners!
... it just took far longer than I ever imagined it could. |

Does anyone have the inside bottom fender lip to opposite end of fender lip?
Scott listed the curve total which is great. I'm looking for the diameter of that half circle |

There has to be a pre-'67 Ghia somewhere in the Denver area.
Save yourself a lot of grief and just go trace a cardboard template. |

Ok cool...so called air cooled clinic - they have a 66 I can make a template from. SO going to head over there.
One question - is the 66 fender wheel well the same dimensions & wheel cut outs as the 63? |

Assuming it is original, yes, it should be. The cutout changed in '67. But to be certain, measure the distance from the rear of the opening to the bumper blade mounting hole. It should be in the range of 2 inches. |

I wanted to thank John - I went down to Air Cooled clinic and they had a 66 from which I could make a template.
In addition....the owner is a SUPER nice guy!!! I will definitely be back!! |

It's looking like the fender repair panel isn't going to be enough. There was either too much cut out or also from the sides
Question: thinking about getting a donor rear clip (I sourced a 66) and just replacing most of the rear fender. For those that may have ever done this:
1) since there is both an inner and outer fender, how complicated/much work will cutting out the old and putting in the new be?
2) Do I just cut through both layers of the old and then first weld in the inner fender to mine and then then the outer?
3) Where would you recommend I cut out the old fender and cut into my car? The upper ridge? Or somewhere lower on the fender?
Sorry for all the questions. Just want to do this right. |
