cool bus! My daily driver is a double door panel. What is the original color of your bus? Have you typed in the m-plate yet?

Looking very good there, I agree the strange luggage area hole is a heater vent of some sort. Great job on the doors, that is a good recovery rate on the hinges (especially after 30 plus years), please post the M-code so we can find out what goodies it came with. How is the dent in the roof coming?

ok here it is:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The roof I have back into the resemblance of its original contour, but far from done.
So, if I'm reading this right it was built November 13th, 1961.

No apparent options, just for North American export

It was sent to San Antonio/Dallas, Texas, USA.

It Is a left hand drive, cargo doors on left and right side model. It was red. I think by the production date it is Ruby red? It says sealing wax red was ended in August of 1961 on the decoder.

Yeah, someone was a cheap ass when they ordered this!
I suppose it could have been ordered by a company for business purposes or something. Would be interesting to know the story. Guy in the dealership: "I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I need to be able to abduct people of off the sidewalk in a hurry, no matter which side of the street they are on. What can you get me?"

Maybe if you strip some of the blue paint off carefully you will find some logos. I found logo's on my bus, but they were too faded to see what it said. Nice work on it so far.

Yup. Was advised to try some oven cleaner, Looking over this, there's 2 slightly different layers of blue, then a layer of not-quite-factory-red, then the original red.

Today is shop cleaning day, so nothing new to post. Except that after I filled an industrial trash bag with all the stuff that fell off this while I was working on it and out of the belly pans when I dropped them, I decided to weigh it for the fun of it. 72 lbs! 32.66Kg! Not including various small parts and pieces of the cargo floor itself that I pulled out of the pile first lol.

That is a lot of debris!!!! no wonder it was a hassle to roll around! I bet there are logos under the over paints. Maybe an oil field service rig? I have a period correct 1500 builder for this, love those cool running sp engines.

Anything is rebuildable now a days regardless of condition

Cool! I live not far north of the springs, small world. And yeah anything is rebuildable, especially since this one seems to have a rock solid frame with no accident damage or rust at either end where the bumpers bolt up. Gonna be a lot of work, but I think It'll be worth it in the end.

Great progress so far! I used the experience gained from dropping the beam with you, to pull the beam from a 65 nose clip I am delivering to Boulder on Monday.

Finishing my day reading your post. Makes me feel like I accomplisehd twice as much.

Go Doug Go!

Cool! Worked on er a bit today, nothing too interesting...just cleaning up loose ends on the cargo floor and rockers. All the little stuff that takes a ton of time but makes ya feel like you aren't making much progress. I'll have a few pics to post soon, but I'm waiting till I get some progress on the front floor. Just hopping on here now to see about the best way to get the steering column and heater tube out of the way to remove what little is left of that floor.

Steering box removal is pretty straight forward and in the manual.

Heat riser is removed after taking out the majority of the floor around it and cutting the gas welds which hold it to the floor. I have a 59 and 60 Panel at the shop if you find that you need a reference. Corner of Platte and Union in the alley.

Thanks for the offer! You aren't too awfully far from me. I don't have a manual yet, and have never removed one of these boxes. Going to start tackling the pedals/heat riser/ steering column this Sunday to get out the rotten front floor.

Egads!! take your time on this, and save everything you remove. This is a time consuming process. Getting the steering wheel off is a challenge as well, I would start soaking the steering wheel nut now and do a samba search for various removal schemes. I have had good success with notching a 2'by6' so that it creates a collar under the wheel and wired on. Then I take a short handled "pick le fork" and get start banging up towards the roof from underneath w/ 3 lb sledge. The wood reduces the impact. I have gotten about 5 off that way w/o damage. There are very nice pullers out there as well. Lookin' good. Lets see pics of the rear roof please!

Ok, ok lol. These pics are of the roof AFTER I worked on it a bit and got the biggest part of the dent out. The dent was originally about the size and shape of a Beetle. Probably because a beetle was stacked on it from what I saw. Stupidly, I forgot to get a pic before I started on it, so you'll have to use your imaginations kids!

You can see by the rust and dirt, there was a big bowl in there before I started that was just gathering soil and creating it's own ecosystem rich in oxide deposits

Here's kind of a tutorial on how to replace a floor: http://www.bulliklinik.com/2012/09/waynes-67-westy.html

You've really got your hands full on this one. If you're not skilled with the welder now, you will be when you're done.
