|
|
I've got a '73 beetle with a '66 beetle's engine. Just a few days ago we put in a new starter and it did good until now. Now the green light stays on after the car is off and it seems that it is draining the battery. Any suggestions? |

I'm going to guess you mean the Gen light in the speedo.
This usually indicates the VR had failed and is sending voltage backwards along the #61 wire. If you still have the original generator the VR will be below the rear seat. If you've upgraded to an alternator the problem is likely internal to the alternator.
Until you get it fixed you need to disconnect the battery while the engine is OFF or the Gen light will drain the battery. _________________ AshMan40

Gen with a Volt Reg or Alt with an external or internal Reg.
Late yr car with a early engine can have different Elect charging systems.
Generally a light still on after a key is turned off means the Volt Reg points inside are sticking.
A light tap with a wooden handle should make the light go off.
Some times that will be the solution and not repeat itself then again a sign the Volt Reg needs to be replaced....kinda hard not knowing exactly what you have. Capeche? |
