I am lucky to have an original paint 67 westy, and an original paint 57 kombi here right now. The 57 shows the gap, the 67 does not. |
Maybe on mondays the don't want to weld this gap |

Here is my bus's nose in original paint:
I've since painted the nose and I guarantee you I didn't remove any weld from that area.

Here we go.
Aug 1, 1966, 1st day of 67 model year production.
Definitely has no weld filling the gap.
Then my late December of 56 built 57 kombi.
Definitely smoothed over, but you can just barely see a slight gap/crack in the paint. _________________ nothing |

Your statement has the dates reversed. Thanks for the photos. This confirms what we are seeing. Now we just need to narrow it down to when this change occurred. My guess is late '62. Has the internet allowed us to become so picky?
Now back to welding!

My November 1962 single cab has it welded. |

Oddly enough that date sounded familiar to me so I had to google it.

I had stepped away from this thread and was about to post a picture of my 59 bus with its filled in gap. Glad to see that others had chimed in. I guess we beat that topic to death! _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

I would love to come Christian but seeing as the overland route via Burma (Myanmar), India, Pakistan, Afganistan, Iran, etc, etc is not very safe these days I might have to give it a rain check
Have a safe drive from Austria to the UK and enjoy the show. Remember, photos or it didn't happen.... _________________ My brother & I on the roof of Dad's Splitty circa 1967 - I'm the half pint with the skinny legs! |

Drinking a beer under the ocean ..... That is cool. Before the Euro tunnel train, you would need to in a submarine to 'drink beer under the sea'.

Yes this Route is not very save at this time.
But the last few steps you can take the eurotunnel.
We drive 13,5 hours with only one 5 Minute fuel stop.
Here we Drink a beer under the ocean :
