Hi all, I just ordered 5 new bias ply Firestone 560-15 2 3/4" white wall tyres for my 56, as my Michellin XZX's are well and truly ready to sleep with the fishes due to dry rot. There are more cracks in those damn things than Joan Rivers face!

I had a look in the gallery, but cant find alot of bugs on these WW's.

Anyone got any pics of their bugs on them, and your thoughts on ride quality/ handling/issues etc??

Thanks! Very Happy

Edit: I am aware of the whole radial vs bias ply debate, but have already decided that I want the og bias ply look, as radials look a bit crap. Mad I dont drive the bug hard, fast or often enough to require radials

The ride, comfort and handling were great - no issues at all. The car felt exactly as it should.

Highly recommended.

EDIT: It goes without saying that you should run them with inner tubes.

Wow, some nice clean bugs dudes! I love the cookie cutter sidewalls, probably part of the reason I don't like the Coker brand in the same size as much. Nice to see some sans-Fuch cars for a change Very Happy

Keep the pictures coming if you have em!

I love the stratos 54 rag RareAir!! the foglight towel rail is the only thing I'm not totally sure about Think

Oh really? I thought these bias ply's were tubeless, and I thought oval bugs had the tubeless rim? Thats a little scary, because I don't think the PO of my car put tubes for my xzx's Mad

Ruben, Those wouldn't happen to be YSR 50s in the background? If so, are they 4-sale?

That's not a normal "towel rail", it's an accessory badge bar. More commonly seen in the UK, not so here in the US

Yeah, I thought it looked like a badge bar of some sort, it has an MG or Austin Healy vibe Very Happy

How do you think those Firestone ride? I'll only have 12yo Michelin radials to compare it to though Laughing

hard to see in the pic, but I have XZX's with portawalls, I cant wait to get rid of those flappers Mad

Correct, however, tubes will offer that extra level of security against punctures or blow outs adding safety and convenience.

I was always really wary of a tyre letting go on the freeway with disastrous consequences for my pride and joy.

When I was changing my tires on my original build thread, several owners all chimed in with arguments for running with tubes, so as I couldn't see any downsides, I did and never regretted it.

Your mileage may vary.... objects in the rear view mirror... etc.

Yeah, I have ordered them through antique tyres, since they pretty much have monopoly over Coker products in Australia. I can't say they are cheap by any means though, I cant help but feel like I own a Porsche or something dropping nearly $1500 on tires from the stone age Laughing

Haha! An oval is just about as good as a Porsche if not better!

When you think about how much money people spend on a restoration of the body, mechanicals and interior, the last thing to part out for is tyres but this is one of the most important for looks and handling.

You will be glad you did it.

Yes they are YSR 50's, they belong to my brother but are not for sale at this time.

I definitely agree with that. I know cars are money pits....beetles included, but if I'm going to spend the money, I might as well do it right! I might have empty pockets in the end, but I'll have a big ass grin too! Very Happy

Sweet Vert FRK, I love the hubcap logo color and the hubcap trim ring combo! How do those trim rings work, do your hubcaps ever fall off because they are wedged under them?
