I know nowadays it seems like most file down the edges or deburr the edges of their camshaft lobes.

Just got this W-100 and I'm wondering if this casting should be this "messy"?

Thats normal. Just file or grind the edges.

I deburr all mine after a failed breakin. The sharp marks in the lifter faces convinced me that the casting's flaws were the culprit. Used Brad Penn and single springs.
