An 18-year-old from Mount Sinai was killed early Friday morning after the 2010 Lamborghini he was driving crashed into a guardrail, police said.
According to police, Samuel Shepard was driving the Lamborghini north on County Road 83 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the guardrail near Route 25A in Mount Sinai at 2:25 a.m.
Shepard was transported by members of the Miller Place Fire Department to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The passenger in the car, Michael Power, 49, of Port Jefferson Station, was also transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Following a preliminary investigation, detectives have determined that excessive speed was an apparent factor in the crash, police said. |

The amazing part:
The passenger in the car, Michael Power, 49, of Port Jefferson Station, was also transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. |

And they saw VW's are not safe cars.
That's so tragic that that young man lost his life in a car he probably didn't have the experience to drive. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

It was probably Power's car and the driver was a friend/family member/whatever. Likely it was a case of 'sure, you can drive it. Let's see what you got..." and will have to live the rest of his life with that decision. |

Why was a 49 year old man out with a 18 year old "boy" at 2:30am?
"friend".... sure, why not. _________________ Glenn

That crash looks survivable. I've seen worse. Just this morning in fact.... _________________ CU05 w/HBB

Of course it's terrible he lost his life, seemed like a good kid. But someone has to answer why at 2:30 in the morning you would let an 18 yr old kid drive that car. _________________ -=Rob

Hate it when I'm right. Early morning simply means there are fewer people on the road to kill if you loose control. Or when, in this case. |
