I was searching the galley for photos of early 60s ghias and it seemed like a high % don't have the "volkswagen" rear deck lid script. Is this an asthetic thing? |

I'd quite like one for my 69 Ghia, but the one I have doesn't suit the car in my opinion so it didn't go back on when the car was resprayed. I'd go for the earlier one with the line under the letters if i could get a stick on only badge. _________________ 1969 UK Karmann Ghia build http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=518789&highlight= |

I guess I understand not wanting the holes drilled in the rear decklid. |

The emblem only started for the 1963 model year. If you see one on a '60 thru '62, then either a 63+ engine lid was retrofitted in the car's life (easy bolt-on replacement), or the existing lid drilled for the mounting holes. The drilling is not easy to do because you must drill a larger access hole for the leftmost emblem hole, which goes partly through the lid's inner frame. Here's a shot of my friend Moogie32's '63 Ghia with its original engine lid.
The style of the emblem changed for the '66 model year, being thicker font and slanted to the right: VOLKSWAGEN instead of VOLKSWAGEN |

I've been looking for that script to fill the holes on my '64 decklid... _________________ 1964 Karmann Ghia Coupe
