Is it possible/not a lot more work to R and R cylinder heads with engine in car ('70 Squareback FI) or is it easier to just remove engine to do headwork?

it's quite a lot of work, but doable, I've done it only because I didn't physically have the space to pull the engine; it takes more time to do it in the car but it's not difficult (getting some of the tins back does get a little challenging)

IMHO it is more work to do it in car then if you pulled the engine.

Thanks for your replies. I'll go with the engine removal to avoid extra ass pain. I guess it'll be better to take a complete look at everything else as well.

Agree that it is possible.

I have even removed competition eliminator heads from my 2276cc engine in the engine bay.

Would I recommend it when you can drop the engine out within 5-30 minutes and gain full access to everything? NO.

Do a search on removing the engine WITH FI, as there's a couple of extra things to be aware of. Wink I only say that, as it's not nessessary to remove all of the FI stuff to remove the engine. Shocked I'm sure Tram has covered it at least once or twice. Wink

If this was a motor that was just gone through, and for some reason had one head go bad shortly thereafter,
then pulling just one head makes sense.

if this thing has been together for a while,
then it is always nice to re-torque the heads on both sides, clean the sludge out from between the fins, check for leaks, clutch, etc...

Unless you have had it out to see all the mistakes the POs have made,
here's your chance.
