While accelerating, my 68 Beetle's engine will "pause" for a split second and then continue to accelerate and then "pause" again for another split second. What would be causing this to happen? Valves, Carburetor, Timing.....

Embarassed After checking for the part numbers I discovered that the bolt attaching the carb to the intake manifold had become loose, causing a vacuum leak. Thanks for your help!
