FYI---

Just noticed, you can get a nice quality set of rear zimmermann brake drums for your bug!

You know the other brand cheaper drums strip out the rear splines.

NAPA has zimmermann drums for around $85 EACH

Amazon has them for $55 each with free shipping...

You realize that I paid the big bucks for these at Napa a while back. $85.99 each+tax.

But at least I didn't have to pay postage.

These are good German drums, folks. Buy 'em while they're this cheap!

I just bought two. I'm surprised I got free shipping on 30 lbs

I have noticed a BIG change in quality in these Zimmerman drums recently: The casting is poorer and the machining is rougher. I have not yet analyzed the material...

And the production numbers etc appear to be hand-stamped rather than machine-written and now they say "MADE IN GERMAN" rather than germany

Thoughts?

Do they say it on the drum?

I'll check when they arrive.

Even so, I'd assume they would be better than others still.

Last set I bought were Sebro. No issues with them and less expensive. I don't think I've ever seen front Zimmerman's.
Do they make them?

If you go to "their website" you will see they are very proud of brake discs.
not much said for drums

apparently these are not what they were, or third world clones

deal with it and move on

either like it or find something else

ACDelco 18B162 Rear Brake Drum (amazon $30) buy 2 free shipping

wtf?

Looks like they don't for Supers. I looked through their catalog. For Supers they list rear drums and front disc's. So looks like they sell only European spec, which means the only drum they make is for rears on Supers

'Like it or find something else' is difficult in Oz as we do not have the choice that international enthusiasts have

It is a shame these trusted components have dropped in quality

And for me a lot of extra work as I manufacture big-ass brakes based on these components' prior quality... I will have to repeat the QC

My Zimmerman box is slightly different--as far as numbers go:

Yours say, BTVAG

Mine say, VAG

The 6001956.00 number is identical.

Then there is another number that differs slightly.

Yours 113501615J

Mine 113501615G

I'm going to pull a wheel and see if mine say Germany or German on the outer rim.

They better say Germany or else Napa is going to hear about it.

Let me know what the outcome is. I'm curious what it means.

You seem like the guy who keeps his receipts Tim Wink

actually they have 18, I just bought a set, that I don't need. But always room on the shelf with the rest of the things I bought that I didn't need but nice to have good parts available when the time comes. If I ever stop driving bugs (not gonna happen} the classified are going to get busy or the new owner of my bug will get a parts dept

Maybe "down under" all get their drums from the same distributer and that distributer is up to no good
