I have a manx meyers dune buggy on a 1969 beetle frame. I have 1968 motor and drivetrane. I have a standard "H" shift pattern with reverse push down and to driver and back. What does it mean when I can shift into 1st and 3rd, but not into 2nd and 4th? I should note that it has been poping out of gear (mostly 2nd) for the last 2 weeks. When I shift into position for 2nd or 4th, it is as if it is in nuetral and just revs. |

Either your shifter lock out plate is worn down, the hockey sticks are broken in the nose cone, the nose cone is cracked or your nose count mount is damaged. _________________ Wash your hands

Your shift rod in the tunnel is too long. Nothing in the trans is in common between 2 and 4th. _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

Except the are both in pull back position... Check adjustment of shifter, might try loosening it up and nudging it forward a bit ... Yes forward because it moves pivot point to where it pulled shift arm(fork) in trans further into gear...
Also might have shift coupler failing or broken trans mount (either nose cone or rubber mount) as mentioned above...

Exactly. The rod is too long, so the shifter cannot move it FOWARD enough. Remember the rod goes foward for 2, 4 and reverse. Typically reverse will not use as much throw as 2 or 4. Also this is a shortened manx, so some one had to shorten the shift rod as well. Probably not correctly _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

On ever buggy I build I take axact measurements and ALWAYS put a adjustable end on shift rod to ab-solutely avoid problems with shift rod angle and length...

If it worked before, then it there is something wrong with the linkage. Remove the shifter to look at it and to check the shift rod bushing. Look at the coupler for the tranny. Check the tranny mounts to see if they broke. |
