A friend of mine has recently bought a 52 CC vert. Very, very nicely restored car, although it was restored 20+ years ago.
There's a few details he would like to sort out on it.

I noticed the steering column is painted body colour ( dove blue );

I'm sure this is incorrect? Surely it should be ivory like the steering wheel? As the wheel needs painting it may as well be done at the same time if need be.

Also took a pic of the headlights, as these look late to me as well, oval era?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Gear stick, steering wheel, steering column & seat frames should be a Beige/Brown color. Cant think of the proper color code at the moment, but it is NOT Ivory. Only the dash switches/knobs & horn button should be Ivory

Headlights look to be from 1959-60.

L71 is code, but I'm finding out that some early verts had dark gray frames depending on exterior color.

Steering column on a Split Karmann Kabrio should be body colour, this was a vert only feature, my old '51 had a Black steering column.

agreed. On split convertibles the steering column tube and gas tank are the body color. My original 51 convertible is the same way.

Those are later headlights. On a 1952 they can be Hella or Bosch, there are other threads describing the exact details. Hella = single rivet. Bosch = hook mounting tab, large text below Bosch logo. Neither will have the "A", "NL" or the squiggle

agreed x 2

I'have a photo archive with with different untouched cars that can confirm this.

I don’t believe the steering wheel should be beige either. I have no pictures of untouched cars that can confirm this. I believe all split cabrios had ivory steering wheels.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I figured the column might be a vert only thing, that's why I thought I'd ask the question.
Cheers.

That is interesting about the steering column being body colour and the wheel being ivory - my understanding was both would be L71 with Ivory wheels coming in in late 52. This is how I am planning on painting mine. I could be wrong - it has happened before Wink

Cheers,

Dave
