|
|
What are the physical differences between the various sway bars available?
I'm not asking for bar diameter or bushing material, but the size(s) and shape(s) of what there are out there. The listings I see in online catalogues say "fits xx year yy model" but I have to figure out which fits my not-on-their-list car.
Which is a Puma GTI, built on a Brasilia chassis (so I am lead to understand), rear swing axle, currently no front or rear bars or camber compensator. |

You are going to be looking at the suspension type that the swaybar is used for.
IE Swingaxle rear Bug/Ghia swaybars should fit your car.
What type of front suspension do you have? _________________ Current VWs:

Your front sway bar will depend on whether your front end is king pin (1965 and earlier for US models) or ball joint (1966 and newer). Use a camber compensator for your swing axle rear. _________________ 1966 Karmann-Ghia convertible |

Is there an easy way to visually tell the difference between l/p and b/j sway bars? _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

No you won't be able to tell the difference (shape) in the front bar very easy. They are only slightly different. What you have to do is identify if you have ball joints or earlier King and Link pins. Just this weekend I installed all of these parts on my 1957. I went with the rear sway bar on the swing axle instead of the camber compensator and am very happy.
You shoud also installa a steering stabilizer and urethane spring plate bushings too. _________________ -John Cox
