I'll give a quick rundown. There are a couple different business models when it comes to online sales. There are places that have actual inventory on hand (like me, I'm old school). Parts are classified as A, B, C, or D depending on how they sell. I stock around 800 A and B part numbers with about 100 to 150 C and D numbers. If I don't have something then I fill in with stock from local wholesalers which allows an order to be filled within the 24hr window.
The other business model is one of very little inventory that depends on drop shipment from places like EMPI and a couple others. A drop shipment is simply sent directly from the source for a small fee, the seller never actually touches the part. I prefer the old school method because I can see the part first hand to make sure the customer gets what they ordered every time (very little breakage that way also). A drop shipper may be less expensive but they are prone to being out of stock when a wholesaler runs dry. That is what causes a delay in an orders shipment. AA performance is running a little behind in supplies on some part numbers which is why some retailers are showing out of stock. _________________ 30 years experience in the sales of new and used auto parts!
