When I logged into Paypal I got a message stating I have reached some sort of limit, and cannot use it unless I divulge personal banking information, or sign up for their credit card. NO WAY!

Anyone know how to get this freeze lifted? I have emailed them but of course they have not responded, and I don't expect them to relent.

Pretty tough to use the classifieds without Paypal. But in this era of data compromises daily, I will not take that added risk.

This is extortion.

Sounds like they already told you how. If you have a PP account then they've had your personal banking and or credit card info since day one.

From PP FAQ's:

How can I lift my Withdrawal Limit?

For security reasons, there are initial limits on the amount of money you can withdraw from your PayPal account each month. Until you complete the steps to remove the limit, you may only be able to withdraw $500.00 per month. The start of a month is determined by when the PayPal account was opened (for example, May 15 to June 15).

You can lift this limit by linking and confirming your bank account or verifying your credit or debit card information.

Here's how you can view and lift your withdrawal limit.

Log in to your PayPal account.
Complete the steps to complete your profile. You will be finished when your profile is at 100%

You've pretty much already divulged your banking info when you signed up. Call them to see that it's a legit message.

Call if you actually want help.

From personal experience, emailing is useless.
It's all form letters and people who don't actually read what you send them.

I ran into the sending limit in Pay Pal a few years ago, and I recall that what I did was change the credit card I had associated with the account. That removed the sending limit. I did not have to get their credit card or link a bank account to my Pay Pal account.

I've never really understood why a company would basically want to "fire" customers that use their services, but then I've never understood eBay/ PayPal all that much.

Way, way back, I added a small special bank account to PayPal in order to transfer payments when i was selling as well as to pay for stuff directly from funds on hand rather than with a credit card. I've never had issues with that- ever- because if there's ever a problem I can claim unauthorized use and I'm covered by my credit union.

However, they are going to pester you for direct access which is a whole other level- strictly for "your" convenience, of course Rolling Eyes - and i would recommend that you NOT do this- I'd also recommend that you NOT "direct link" your eBay and PayPal accounts.

There are some very alarming changes coming down the pike rapidly for sellers with PayPal, though- namely:

a)the dispute window is being expanded to 180 days, and

b) International disputes are governed by the PayPal rules in effect in the buyer's country.

These changes are for all PayPal users, not just eBay sales, so watch out.

I posted this info here
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7373430#7373430

and provided links to the policy verbiage.

I had this issue a couple years ago which seemed to be triggered when i changed my address.
a phone call fixed everything fast.
I know a lot of people dont like paypal for whatever reason; fear of big brother, fees, or protecting data.
I personally find paypal very convenient and have used them for many years with no issues.
Hope i didnt just jinx myself

Paypal is cooperating again. I got this message after I sent a "nastygram" complaining about their block and the form email I got:

Quote:
Hello! My name is Gwen, a PayPal Product and Site Support specialist and I'll be glad to assist you with your limit inquiry.

Please disregard the alert that you're seeing when you log in to your PayPal account. I assure you that your account do not have any limits on it and you will be able to continue using your account for your transactions. This situation has been escalated to our technicians and I guarantee that this is a High Priority issue that we are currently working on. Based on the most recent update we have received, removing the alert has started for some accounts and the issue should be resolved within the next few days.

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter. Thank you for choosing PayPal.

So it looks like they had a systematic problem after all.
