I got a four day birthday weekend, woohoo!!! I have the bus all packed and in the morning I'm hitting the road for the Jerome Jamboree. This will be my 4th car show this year and the 2nd VW only show. Smile. The trip should be around 8 or so hours through the four corners and northern Arizona. No doubt it will be beautiful. It will just be my dog, Arthur Fonzarelli and I. My wife has to work and wanted to keep our boy with her. Dancing Gonna try to hook up with mtnbus and camp close to the event. Gates open at sunrise on Friday and I'm hoping to get there early. I want to get a nice spot and get all set up.

The bus is tuned, shifting great and ready to go. I'm really intrested in seeing how my oil temps are with the new full flow system. I have noticed a difference in my daily commute but running the highway is a different story. I know pics or it didn't happen. Thanks for reading.

On the road! Gotta stop for ice and I'm gonna make a quick stop at the VW shop and drop the mechanic off some beer.

I know a bunch of dudes heading down from Evergreen. Sadly, I will not be able to join them this year. If you're interested in meeting up with them PM me and I'll see what I can figure out.

Rich,
Hope you have a fun trip down.

Question, Does your gear basket sag with that much wood on it?

In Tuba City, AZ. Bus is running great, got 22.7 mpg on the last tank! New oil cooler is doing well too, oil temp has been sitting right at 190* for hours. The scenary is beautiful.

The rack isn't sagging and not really effecting my milage.

What a great trip! Unforcnatly I didn't hook up with mtnbus, he is camping north of Flagstaff in Snobowl. I decided to head further south, closer to the event. I pulled into Dead Horse Ranch SP, started driving around and I ran into 2 guys in buses from my area, Ray and Robert. So I pulled into their spot and I'm camping with them.

My oil temp did go as high as 200* coming into Flagstaff. I turned the fan and it dropped back to 180*. So far I give the new set up Two thumbs up!

Nice pics. Is 200 degrees high? Seems normal to me. What fan?

What an awesome trip! My bus ran great and I met a ton of really nice people. Friday morning we were up and out of our camp site by 630am. We stoped so Ray and Robert could wash their buses. A quick stop into the market for Tequila and ice, then we were on our way. When we got there, there was already a ton of buses there but there was still a lot of room. We got a nice spot and had space to set up our camp. Mtnbus and his travel buddy Chad showed up around 1pm and joined us. Shortly after that we were joined by a local named Jack, he was totally awesome and made our camp even better. We basicly hung out a drank a lot. Went something like get a fresh beer, walk around, return back to the site for a fresh beer and repeat.

Saturday was my birthday and wasn't much different then Friday, lots of beer. But...Chad got super drunk and pasted out on the ground. Good times!!!

Sunday we got up early and packed up our camp and went to the raffle drawing. I didn't win anything Sad but I still had an epic time. By far one of the best birthday weekends ever. After the raffle Mtnbus, Chad and I car-a-bused to Sedona and went to a swimming hole. Which was needed after no shower for 4 days. There was even a rope swing, good times. Now that we were clean we headed to Flagstaff for some food. We enjoyed great food and good tunes on the patio of the Flagstaff Brewery. I broke off from them after lunch. I had to boogie home to the family and they were going camping again.

My bus ran like a champ and I noticed a huge difference with the new cooler. Temps were way down and I didn't notice any performance change.

Trip stats
Milage: 772
Gallons (91): 38.6
MPG: 20, I've seen better but still good
Oil used: ~1/4 Qt
Oil temps: 180*-190* there, 180* all the way home

Made it.

Hey, I met Fonzy on Saturday morning! We pulled in with the 3 bugs that set up camp right next to you, Ray and Robert. Had a great time. Hope to be camping out of the Double Cab next year.

Hahahahah! Good times and memories. My advice if you are old and need to go to sleep at 9 and only have a tent because your single cab is not cozy enough is, park somewhere else! Dancing

2015 Trip

It's Jerome Jamboree time, woot woot!!! This year instead of trying to get a 4 day birthday weekend I took the whole week off. This gave me time to relax and get my stuff together. This year I'm going solo, no wife, kid or dogs! Smile. I spent a few hours today packing the bus for the event and I'm pretty much ready. Tomorrow a trip into town to drop my son of at daycare, stop for ice and I'm on the road. Hoping for that to be as close to 9 AM as possible, it's 378 miles from Durango to Jerome. I really don't have a solid plan for camping on Thursday night. Mtnbus is going as well but he left today and planned on staying in Flagstaff tonight. We might hook up and camp near Cottonwood, if not I'm thinking I'll just go strait to the event and set up. This way I don't have to leave Friday morning 6:30 AM again to get a good space. Not real concerned about that and I'm excited to get hit the road in the morning. Pics will follow. Thanks for reading.

I'm on the road! Looks like it's gonna be sunny and in the mid 80s today. Good day for a adventure. I'm gonna stop in Cortez to top off the tank then maybe a stop in Tuba City.
