the amount of weight/power a v8 has isnt really "toy car friendly" transmission, axles and a motor is big $ not counting the thousands in suspension.

search, v8 baja bug on yahoo.

very true the torque that you get from a v8 makes it hard to get a transaxle to hold up to the power. also the added weight to the rear of the vehicle makes for poor weight distribution.

Imagine the stability of a Saturn V flying backwards.

1) Polar moment of inertia: picture a barbell set. set it up with the heaviest weights on the outer ends. Imagine picking it up and rotating it lengthwise. It's going to be very hard to get it turning, and very hard to stop it once it moves.

now rearrange it with the heaviest weights in the middle, just empty bar on the ends. you could spin that sucker like a top and stop that spin with a tap.

same weight, different distribution.

which is why all formula cars and serious racing sports cars are mid engined.

hang a 400# iron V8 on the back of a 1600 pound car, you will be an authority on the effects of Polar moment of inertia if you survive.

2) GM invented a nice little 215" V8 back in the '60s. nobody wanted it. a smaller V8? they sold it to Rover. the bogus '73 fuel crisis came along. they tried to buy it back. Rover said, you sold it to us, it's ours

so GM lopped off two cylinders and made it a six. The odd fire 232 V6 came first, then the classic 258 V6. more engine, less size.

if you have to go big, go big and light.

I wanna go ls1 and Mendy sd4 or s4d? I can't remember which way it goes and I have read that north star build multiple times I love it, but it just doesn't catch my fancy as much as a Jesse James monster garage type build but I will think bout what you said map evolent. But seriously how awesome would it be to rip around with 400+ hp

I'd love to have a V-8 rail ride with us out in the woods. Just imagine the entertainment that could bring. Heck that just might be me with my iron block 4 cylinder so I think I'll shut up now. If you want my opinion, and I'm sure you don't, a V-8 is compensation for a shortage of something. Unless you're easily entertained by doing circles through the dunes all day the car wouldn't really be good at anything else. Just like long-travel sand limos, it's all to say look at what I got (not what I can do). I love looking at them and building one sounds like fun, but I think after driving one a few times it'd get old. But I'm not a duner, and I said I was shutting up back there, didn't I?

Believe me no shortage of anything except possibly a few brain cells from concusions and doing normal redneck shit orange crusher lol. And I wouldn't be going to dunes mostly desert back roads where Toyotas think there hot shit and up in the mountains. Even have this crazy idea bout making tracks for the back and putting skis or something on the front come winter time ( again redneck crazy ideas that pop in your head when you've had to much pendelton.... But still sounds awesome when your sober)
