Tube was 1 1/2 as Joe said.
Pin is used over bolt as it can't fall out, is easy to visually inspect, has a flat side to get in close and it is on or not no half solution or mistakes.
Peening has failed so many times I wouldn't consider it a good option. Out of the last 6 buggies I have had on the lift none of them had pivot bolts that were tight and 3 of them had washers installed incorrectly. I never thought it was such an issue but it certainly seems to be.
You can still use 1/2" tools to get it out it does not interfere at all.
Safety wire has also failed to many times to bother and needs to be done correctly by someone with the correct wire and tools. Use wrong wire and it will give you a false sense of security.
I use to do the 17mm hex inside the head with a small tab as suggested by Joe but then I had a car which has seen beach work and the hex bar rusted into the pivot bolt and end result was that we had to cut the bolt out, never again. |

Here one on a project I am working on.
As you can see there is room for a 1/2in tool and ratchet.
This a setup KarTek sells for retaining the pivot bolt.

jrailer,
Yes the lever is broken and has fallen out. A #1philups screwdriver works for changing direction on the ratchet until I can get to a Snap-on dealer. _________________ Joseph
