Hello! Just wanted to introduce myself. We have been wanting a Ghia for a long time and I plan on picking one up after I get enough info and know what to look for. I finally got a house with a garage after a decade + without one. I will be reading through the stickies above! Thanks for all the informative posts.

Welcome from Cali.
I read almost the entire Ghia forum when I first started. Took a couple of months reading every night. Learned a lot.
Learn all about the rust areas and how to spot them.
Have fun. Shocked Very Happy Cool

Don't go near a Ghia with intent to buy before reading this, inwardly digesting and reporting back to this topic with copious pictures of your proposed purchase: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7108497

This will save you a lot of heartache and a big hole in you bank balance. Laughing

Welcome from Midlothian, VA. I have owned a 74 Ghia cabriolet since I bought it new in September 1974--one of the last few. I driver mine about once a week and enjoy cruising down the James on Riverside Drive.

Welcome! I'm here doing a vert restoration in Oregon.

What John says!! John is an amazing moderator with a ton of experience.

Hanging out at the House of Ghia has shown me how lucky I was when I had bought my ghia without reading that. The HoG is often repairing "bad restorations", including the use of chicken wire, and lots of funky filler systems. I saw a rocker covered up with a gutter, under a brand new beautiful paint job. Buyer beware. Try to get something that hasn't been "touched".

I've got some of that! It's inside around the front heater vents near your feet. Most of it was painted black, but it completely seals the heater channel. Rolling Eyes

I am in Maryland but my '72 coupe is in my friend's garage near Lake Anna and we work on it every weekend or so. If you want to drop by and swap stories, let me know. Very Happy

I bought my current Ghia down in Richmond. The Bug Hause in Richmond did some work for me on the car. You may want to check them out. They might have a lead on a car.

Hey! Virginia appears to have turned into a "Ghia State"! I'm west of Strasburg. Welcome!

About 3 hours southwest here. Restoring my 71 Ghia vert. Was my first car 25 years ago.

Good luck! Maybe our Ghias will meet one day!

Welcome!! I am in newport news and currently workin on a 67 ghia for my girlfriend. This site is a great place to learn!! My advice would be unless you find a really clean car on the east coast look to CA or AZ for one. The money you spend on shipping will well outweigh the money you will spend on replacement panels and time welding a east coast car. Just my .02 cents.
