I bought this bus engine that seems to be a mix of parts. Seamed fanshroud together with later generator and worst of all, on one side there is a 36hp head. I am taking it apart this weekend so what happend will be revealed. Anyway, it seems to be from august -53.
A few questions:
Is the faint square under the number some kind of "Austausch" symbol?
Is it possible to mount a 36hp head on 25hp cylinders?

Yes, it is possible to mount a 36hp head on 25hp cylinders if you "modify" the cover. Luckily I have some spare 25hp heads, studs and tins. The pistons looked quite nice also. A little cleaning up now and store it for the future.
First I just need to find out if the carb and distributor are correct for a aug/-53 BD engine. The generator, I have learnt is more or less same for all 25hp engines.

Nice engine you found.
Yes, it means "AUSTAUSCH".
The crank case (half) was built August, 11th, 1953
The distributor seems to be correct and should read VE 4 BRS 383
The generator has a date code: 1953 would be "J" |

Thanks kalymnos, what I suspected regarding the Austauch. The carburator also looks correct. I understand that it is no vacuum casting for late 52, Blind casting for 53 and plugged vacuum for 54-55.
Today I made an inventory of my 25hp parts. I guess these would also be correct for my aug/53 engine.

So the base of the pump is later?
Here are the fuel pumps I have. The lower left one is for the older 8mm. I guess that base would be correct for this pump.

I've seen 25hp heads bored out for 36hp. Could have had one of those on one side and a 36hp head on the other, leave the 25hp tin on & trim holes for the 36hp nuts. Run 36hp ps and cs, for the big bore power? |
