Been around VW powered bikes for a long time. Having only owned BMW /2 conversion bikes and an Amazonas. My conversion bikes don't run any tins or conduct any airflow over the cylinders of heads and they run perfectly fine under 95% of the rides I take. Your riding climate makes the biggest difference. I only have to have a concern if I get stuck in stop and go traffic. Otherwise, when I am movin, They are Coolin! Since they don't sit in an engine compartment it is a huge advantage. Then add in they don't have to work hard at all to move the masses adds to the heat trade off.

If you follow VW powered Motorcycles? Yahoo Groups has a site dedicated to these bikes called "VWMOTORCYCLES" here are some pic's. Check it out.

Here are some no tins for air control bikes till you get to the last one which is an Amazonas.

This is Bud Burkey's 450 HP ?? I think, type 4

I am currently part of VWMOTORCYCLES yahoo group, they have many good pictures of the bikes built, only I do not identify this type of engine and its origin

Very nice looking build. Have you considered building roller frames.

Probably a Tatra V4 aircooled engine.

=> No my mistake, it is indeed a Zaporozhets engine.
