Driving cross-country currently to Lansing, Iowa to pick up a 1967 SO-42 Westfalia:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1697366
The plan is to drive the bus back to Loveland, Colorado. The good news is there will be a safety car following, full of tools, parts, and a jack. Just throwing it out there as I may need possible assistance along the route. Please let me know what you think of my soon-to-be Westy. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Congratulations!
Might want to move that vacuum advance line to the port on the left side of the carb and retime it with the line off at max mechanical advance, could make the trip more enjoyable and less memorable for the wrong reasons. Looks kinda scary in there

Thanks BusDaddy! I'm guessing by your post the vacuum hose is hooked up wrong? If you notice any other anomalies lay them on me, please! _________________ Special Thanks to:

Great looking bus! I wonder why the green tin and aftermarket goodies on such a stock looking bus? Odd..
Post pics of your trip. Hopefully it's uneventful. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I saw this bus for sale the other day and thought it seemed really inexpensive compared to others listed here, nearly too good to be true at that price. Looks great, enjoy it! _________________ "OG = Original German" -- TheSamba.com dictionary |

Congratulations! Nice looking westy!
But Iowa to Colorado really doesn't qualify as cross country, lol. Hopefully you'll get an opportunity to drive it coast to coast one day! _________________ Call your Cunado's:

I had the exact same reaction--too good to be true. I think we have been subconsciously influenced by the outrageous prices for junk buses and when we see one that is within reason, we get suspicious. That looks to be a very nice Westy and I'm glad it went to an enthusiast instead of a flipper. |

Thanks guys for the input and comments. Will post some pictures when I get back home.
Not sure what is crops country? But consider this. I've been driving for 36 hours straight and 10 more hours to go. I went from the mountains to the east border of WI. Seen the Mississippi River. 1000 miles one way. _________________ Special Thanks to:

I think the term cross country is not just coast to coast bro! Otherwise cross country skiing would be called something different. _________________ Special Thanks to:

15 hours to get there in a Toyota so double that when we picked up the stock engine bus. Instead of 75-90 mpg I can do 45-55 mph. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Is it also considered cross country if you go from the south border to north border? Do diagonals count? What about from the east border to the north border, like driving across Maine?
Oh sweet bus - looking forward to seeing it around... _________________ Wish List:

Someone ease help me understand this. My insurance company is only willing to insure this bus for what I paid for it? I asked them what if I got it as a gift then what it has no value? I'm so livid. Gonna be shipping for a new insurance company for my heard of cars, house, etc. If these idiot cannot get there was out of there ass _________________ Special Thanks to:

The most important thing in this thread is to make the OP aware of what a cross country trip really is, lets not clutter this thread up with discussions on the bus. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. Eric (the seller) is a good guy. From the times I've seen his bus I have always wanted it. Congratulations on the score. Eric, hope to see you again at Bustoberfest. |

What makes you think it should be insured for a higher price than what you paid? So much so that you're "livid" with your insurance company about it?
If it's worth so much more than you are paying, just get an appraisal and provide that to the insurance company. Oh, and drive faster to go get it before someone else does. _________________ "The new Volkswagen 1303. We've made so many improvements, they're beginning to show." |
