Hey first I hope I'm posting in the right section. It said high performance engines, but I'm looking for at least a 1600. I have had my 64 bug for a few months getting everything I need for it to be road worthy. Last on my list is an engine. I live in Carson, CA near the beach cities and about 20 minutes south of L.A. If anyone can refer me to a good vw shop near me I would greatly appreciate it. The shop doesn't have to be super close, but within about 45 minutes would be good. I'm looking to spend around $1500. Thank you for all your help!

Sorry yeah, im looking for a complete motor. I looked under the engine section, but didnt find too many good ones and im skeptical because i bought one off craigslist a few months ago for 500 talked to the guy a lot and trusted his word, took it to the vw shop and the guy said needs a rebuilt and it was a 1300 so wasnt worth it. Basically i got screwed because i didnt know about motors. Thats what i get though lol

Finding a complete new engine for that budget will be tough. Even stock. A new case alone is up to 800. Call around and see what some shops can offer.

Cpr
Carcraft
Powerhaus
To name a few.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the 1300 you bought for $500?

No need to keep looking, your engine is in the back in a VW, look there. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I still have it. What the mechanic told me is it'd cost more to rebuild than a 1600 because parts are hard to find for that.
