Old VIN

Any tips for tracking down an old VIN?
Most common search for fee sites need a 17 digit VIN.
I bought a new Ford F-250 4x4 in 1979.
It has an 11 digit VIN.
Regret to this day selling it.
If it hasn't been salvaged or totaled would like to find it and possibly buy it back.

I can get all kinds of 17 digit VINs for a small fee.
Just can't seem to find the old 11 digit VIN my truck had.
