Picked up this 65 Camper a few months back and I'm wondering what conversion it is. There isn't much left and I'll snag more pics later but this is what I have so far.
Sorry I had a typo in the first post. I do want to know what camper it is. Thanks for making me re-read my post haha.
Thanks

Here are some more pics of the interior. Anyone have an idea of who built the camper kit?

I've been busy restoring my wife's 66 mustang and the bus was on the back burner. The mustang is near done so I'm looking into it now. The real question here is what camper version is it? I'll get to the vacuum |

What you have there my friend is a "Sportsmobile". Check out the ID your camper thread and gallery for pics. I have one I am putting back together. |

Cool thanks. Who made the "Sportsmobile" or is that the company? Do you have a link to that thread?
Found the thread. It is indeed a Sportsmobile. Cool bus, thanks. |

Its a cool camper, I had to bust your chops only cause I am jealous you have a floor to vacuum. I really dig the gutters that go above the windows.
Good luck with it man. _________________ Shadetree Westy

Do you have the aft facing jump seat with the side fold up seat with storage and built-in potty toilet seat aka honey bucket? Very cool IMHO as long as used for #1 only on road trips. |

Lots of that looks like my EZ camper. The camper thread (as suggested) has extensive photos of all the camper conversions and believe only one had those clam shell interior lights. The EZ also had paneling going up the windows to the top in the long panel and on the cargo doors as well with the thin tin trim. Both were saw out window opening in a panel.
But my other bus (a panel conversion) had those louvered windows with out the rain shield but the EZ had single pane wind ups.(like yours) with the rain shields.
Great looking project though. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.

The dead giveaway that makes this one a Sportsmobile is the white Formica paneling EVERYWHERE. I dig it. All I have is the major monuments (coat closet, head banger, rear aft corner cabinet, fold out bed base, jumpseat and main dining table (super cool) so I have to put wood paneling in place of the Formica. Keep that Formica PLEASE! (unless you want to sell it to me ) |

I know the M code says 64 as the build year but the title is May of 65. Don't know how that happened but that is what it is titled as.
The formica isn't in that great of condition so it will likely get replaced with some wood. |

So the wife's '66 Mustang is done and the Bus was pushed into the garage to start getting the crusty stuff replaced. I have it nearly all gutted now and ready to start cutting away and replacing.
I want to start with the cargo section first since it has the most rust. How do you remove the cargo floors. I've searched around a bit but can't find a thread saying you need to locate and cut spot welds or if there is a faster method. The entire floor will be replaced.
Pics of the new progress and the rust situation.
And the spot where I striped the crappy house paint back to find beautiful pearl white. The bus will be stripped and paint blended over new metal.

Some people swear by spot weld cutters, others say just air chisel along the top of the top hats and some just use a grinder to grind thru the weld. I used a little of all 3 to get mine out, which were only slightly less rusty than yours.
The cleanest removal I've seen pics of was done by cutting out the sections of floor between the attachment points, leaving only the strips of metal where the welds are on top of the cross members. Those were then air chiseled up in long strips. This is how I'd do it were I doing it again. Just watch out for the tubes, etc, running beneath the floor. |

Well I fought the rear bumper off and managed to yank the motor last night. Where is it stamped to determine if the motor is original to the bus?
This weekend, cutting up the cargo floor area. |

So this is the most rust repair I've taken on with a bus and I'm wondering where to go from here. All outriggers need replaced, rear crossmember, rockers and a few other pieces in the cargo area.
Where is the best place to start with putting this puzzle back together? I'm trying to get a game plan together where to start cutting a bit more and start welding in new metal. |

Right below the generator, stamped into the engine just below where the generator tower mounts. Read it looking through the fan belt. Clean with rag if you don't see numbers _________________ .ssS! |
