Very cool, I hope my little girl takes an interest in cars some day too. She's 4 now so I have time to plant the seeds. My ghia was in much the same shape as yours. Go through my build to see the transformation. I'm no body man but I can put in a patch panel now for sure.

Good luck and have fun!

As the father of a teenage daughter you need to tell your dad how lucky he is to be able to share a common interest with his daughter. I think you both will have lot of bonding time together in that garage and hopefully in the end you will have a good relationship and a cool car to drive. I love seeing this kind of thing because I suspect you will really love this car since you have invested so much time and effort into it rather than having someone just hand you a set of keys to a newer car that you may not have the emotional attachment to.
I have noticed in most of your pictures of you working on your car that you aren't wearing gloves or eye protection. Please do that. You don't want to have scars that prove you did all this work!

Hi Caitlyn.

I was wondering when reality would bite. The car needs a lot of work but it pleases me that your dad seems like he will take the proper route and fix the rust with metal. That's an outstanding level of commitment to you since he obvioulsy knows how much work is up ahead. That man loves his daughter Very Happy

Anyway I'm well into a restoration of a '66 cabriolet so I know a thing or two about that particular model year. If you get stuck with any '66 peculiarities shoot me a question. As for generally Ghia stuff the gang here are more than obliging as you've found.

Hope the project goes well for you. Already you've set a cracking pace and I look forward to the regular updates here

Nicholas

Thank yall so much for the interest, and concern! You guys are like a bunch of dads! I've told me dad a bunch of times maybe we should find a better body, but he says how am I gonna learn how to repair anything if we just buy a new one? I do want to learn, and it may cost us a little more time in the long run but just like all of you, I will know how to do it myself, and at very worst I'll have to buy a new body later. But I will learn to fix my very own car. And YES. I will start wearing my gloves and goggles. Promise. My dad is on me about it also.

Invest in a decent quality mask with screw in filters. Those paper deals are far from ideal. The screw in filter types, you can't even smell solvent. That's how good they are and that's why you should be wearing them. I regret that I did not invest in this above EVERYTHING 20 years ago

Youthful enthusiasm. This will be fun to watch.

I assure you I am working my butt off Very Happy . I do appreciate anything anyone has given me or helped me out with. And I surely understand having to save. It's taken me 4 weeks just to save for the floor pans. Lots of babysitting. But in the end I want to be just like all of you, driving and enjoying my car, and accepted in this community I really like.

I really appreciate that! I have to say that nobody has been mean or I'll willed to me since I started this. It has been nothing but good times every time I post or ask questions. I honestly feel between facebook and the Samba I really have an extended family here. And I promise plenty more pics are to follow!!!
