Not a bus part, but enough of us have Vanagon seats that I figured I'd post it here. I've been prototyping a 3D printed arm rest bolt cover, a part that seems to go missing a lot on these seats.

Ooh, that would be pretty easy as it's flat...but getting the leatherette texture might be challenging as it would have to be part of the model. _________________ '75 Campmobile (tin-top to SpaceRoof)

The texture wouldnt be a huge deal for me. Just an idea, as they are pretty slim pickings and $$$. _________________ Rich

OK, cool...and aside from the plate itself, is there anything else to it? Tabs on the back? Anyone have any dimensions?
On a side note, I printed the 17-tooth KPH speedo gear last week with satisfactory results, and am awaiting feedback from some folks to whom I sent samples. The difficult thing here is that because the teeth are smaller the resolution of the printer is more of a factor.

Probably, if I had the pieces to create the model from...would need to know the strength and flexibility requirements, too, if any. But the bigger question is how you'd get the new piece in there...is it riveted together? _________________ '75 Campmobile (tin-top to SpaceRoof)

I have not taken one apart and don't one at this time,I have seen where others have removed this part and glued it together, the switch is very hard to find and it seems that this plastic piece is the main cause of it failing. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=620186

Well, if someone can send me the pieces I can model it and try to print replacements. Sounds like others have had a similar issue with it? _________________ '75 Campmobile (tin-top to SpaceRoof)

Hey, Doug -
On the radio blank, yes, there is a metal spring tab that latches into the back.
I have one of these plates if you would like an original to work with. What the texture needs would be a laser scanner! _________________ John

An original would be awesome. Either way, though, the piece might need some painting afterward to fill in tiny spaces and make it have more of a consistent surface. I've done this in the past with a thicker clear coat (for crafts) and then a real paint over top.
I'm willing to give it a try...PM me if you don't mind sending it my way and I'll give you my address. Same with that other broken part that Lil-Jinx mentioned.

Been modeling a bunch of projects lately. Some VW some Subaru.
Here is a radio blank, let me know if it fits. Just a bit too big for me to print on my machine.

The center piece for Bay Sunroofs were reproduced on a very limited basis. Probably a small market but those who need them NEED them. |

As far as the sliding door handles that are affixed to the rear of Late Westy's there isn't much to it. I have several....it's only a matter of a 1/2 inch by 1-2 inch plate afixed to the inside of the handle with 2 screws. That's it. I would be more than happy to show how to take a handle and make it work perfectly for this application. A 10 year old could do it in metal shop. |

They are the parts that hold the turn signal lever in place, and facilitate cancelling on the 73ish turn signal. (Mine is a '73, has these parts broken, and is very difficult to find.)
I might have the pieces, I'll try to see as soon as I can. _________________ Dave Cook

Some random projects I used 3D printing to complete.
Parcel tray mount.
Some LED clips and mounts
Knobs for the LED dimmer.
And a table mount for a fold out table I made.
And some other doodads
Coasters, spare knobs and misprints

you could prob never find one for reference, but the male end for the diagnostic plug. You would have to use the female to get a usable mold (on a side note, I am calling the part with the pins and spades sticking out as the male end, even tho the plug in the bus does the sliding in action)I have read some interest in folks using the plug as an elect start, trailer light access point, and some other apps. |
