Was watching the CBS show " Sunday Morning " and they were doing a story on the WWII american war hero Desmond Doss. What was suprising was in the last shot that they showed of Desmond Doss there was a Split Window something in the background. They only show it for a split second.........it's about 20 minutes in to the program... After watching it several times....I'm not sure if it is a Split Bug or not....the footage date is October 12th, 1945.......so it may not be a Split Bug. Hard to say.....Anybody else see this? _________________ " Southern Comfort Vintage Volks "

There were dozens of split window cars in the US before the war. Here is one of the cars that inspired the VW split window, a 1937 Lincoln Zephyr. Ferdinand Porsche was picked up in one of these while he was visiting Ford, and lo and behold, the rearwindowless V30 was developed into the V303 just weeks after he got home. Lots of other cars had the same arrangement, due to the lack or cost of glass bending machines at the time, combined with the development of aerodynamic bodies with curved surfaces.. _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image
