|
|
I have had this old Goldenrod Singlewheel trailer for several years just sitting behind my garage (last tags on 2002). So after all this time I decided to do something with it. I never liked how high they sit behind a VW, especially one that is lowered. So I decided to do a 12” drop to get it to the same height as the DC. I ended up building a boxed tube frame for the wheel mount, and then sheet metal covered the tub. The top is the original from the 50’s still sporting the original paint and some vintage decals.
I have never seen another lowered single wheel trailer, but suspect mine won’t be the last. It is not the greatest at carrying a bunch of cargo anymore, but I can still throw a cooler and a few lawn chairs in the back.

We're you at Calico last weekend? That is jim's truck isn't it?
I go to NW mogfest in Sheridan OR every year, have you ever gone?
Love these little trucks, air cooled horizontally opposed motors just like a VW. |

Here are both oif my haflingers next to Jim's. Picture was taken at his house. the new one is a highly optioned Austrian Army truck and the middle one is a Swiss Army Bantam (anti-tank) truck. Jims with the different headlights is a North American civilian model.
This was from last year when I had just purchased the one on the far left (cali plate) |

Looks cool behind the bus. I'm curious, why did the wheel box need to be so wide? I can see the longitudinal length requirement for suspension travel, but don't see the need for it to be so wide that it leaves you so little cargo space. I figure I'm missing something. |

Remember that on a single wheel trailer the wheel turns 360 deg so in order for that I had to make the room. I wish it did not have to be so big either, but hey it has enough room to carry chairs. A pop up tent and a cooler. I don't really have plans to use it for more then a car show accessory anyways. |

you should definatly plan on going next year. Afterwards it will be on your calander perminatly.
More and more the VW community is taking over this event. I would say between the Vanagons, a few bajas, things and the such (Schwimmwagon and Kuble were their this year). Thier are more VW's then any oter make at the Waldersee Farm
I have owned a few Pinzgaures, Land rovers and a 16" Doka over the years but for 4x4ing nothing beats the Haflinger. |

hell ya that would be sweet ontop of the trailer. I have a Autohome rooftop tent (a bit different than that one) I might see if I can rig up for it. |

I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great roof top. I ran mine on my doka for awhile, now I run It on my modern rig a 13 tundra RW. |
