The heat exchangers on the motor are for regular daily driving, used all the time to keep you warm, window clear and what not. The Eberspacher is meant as a secondary heater to that for when its really cold or you are parked for any duration.
Dont think of the Eberspacher gas heater as your primary daily use heater. Thats what the motor heater boxes are for.
The Eberspacher was advertised as the secondary heat to warm you up while the motor was coming up to temp. Then turned off until the next day or if you park and need some heat while the motor is off.
Imagine a cold morning that Im sure you get in your neck of the woods - the Eberspacher being set to run 15 min prior to you leaving for work. You enter a warm toasty bus. That and keeping you warm while camping is primarily what its for. _________________

Fighting the good fight. Lots of bondo to remove.
Also pulled the single carb intake off the engine. all the inner intake manifold studs came out with the nuts for some reason.
Also been fighting with the engine tin screws. I've soaked them in PB Blaster, hammered them with and without a screwdriver and sweared at them all to no avail. Tomorrow I will try again but with heat added to the mix. |

Toying with the idea of doing a water-cooled swap to an ABA or possibly some other donor.

I have found a Ghia Pancake engine in town that is practically free. Will that drop into my bus? or at least have useable engine parts? at the very least I can use the flywheel correct? |

A T3 Ghia pancake or a T1 Ghia motor? Neither is a good idea and no parts will work. The water pumper was a far better idea. _________________

Does that sticker mean I have a 74?
Can't seem to get these cooling tin screws out.

"74 sticker means the fan shroud is from a '74 engine. VIN tells you year of Manufacture. _________________ '72 Elm Green Deluxe |

Hi. I'm enjoying your thread as I too have a '73 Westy.
What is your VIN and engine code and number? I'll look them up in the Specification Guide. _________________ 1973 Campmobile Automatic. |

Unscrew it out like a normal bolt. Its part of the smog pump system the later carbureted buses had o pass emmissions. I have the same on my 74 motor but I replaced them with normal bols as the hole goes into the combustion chamber.
Im still interested in all that eberspacher stuff if you want to let it go _________________

That's what I thought but the down side is they're just gonna snap off, gave them a bit of a twist and the shaft is twisting on itself.
I'm getting there with the heater stuff lol. |
