1974 rusted dead Super Beetle made a good Winter Palace for our two dogs who live at the little ranch out of town where we have our work garages.
The Beetle love extends to more species than just human.
The floors where all gone but the body, though in bad shape was all there including the windows. Great candidate for dog house restoration!
Aluminum faced styrofoam under plywood board floors, linoleum and carpet flooring, closed off the front foot well for comfort and cleanliness and two coats of urethane on the body made a solid and clean dog house.
A plywood box with a dog flap door, through the right back quarter panel, set through the dog pen fence gives easy access.
The car had no title, so instead of cutting it to dispose of it, our friend Randy Brown (factory trained VW mechanic), who has a "flock of Beetles" on his property as a token of his love for our pooches. Thank you, Randy.

1. I bet it has a doghouse cooler !!!!

2. Well, that seems simpler than turning a doghouse into a Super Beetle !!!

Not long... we set it up today, just next to the dog pen and the entry vestibule is done. We just need to install the flap door and the linoleum roofing tomorrow.
The dogs love it.

I dunno - the 73 Super that is going to show up here on Tuesday apparently has been the home to a 5 or 6' long black snake. Gonna LOVE pulling the seats up...... Shocked

Hi Jeffrey, believe me, I know, it was not salvageable. I did with my husband a 1967 full restoration, earlier this year.
This one, had no title, floor boards and frame rusted out, the top rust pitting so deep... it sat outside in the field for 16 years. We recycled the engine and tranny.
It looks good because I fully painted it. But it is not a salvageable car, at least not in Texas.
Here is the '67 during the restoration:

I'm sure someone out there with a rotten Super would have appreciated that body.

Surface rust may = parts car in Texas but in most places that thing is rust free compared to most of what is being restored these days.

Not having a dig, I think its awesome what you've done with it, just sayin' one persons trash is another's treasure.

Absolutely correct. It was "trash" in my friend's field and it became "my treasure".

Maybe not for you but I've seen cars in much worse shape brought back to life. From the before pictures you shared, the body was pretty solid. Here in Jersey new floors are the price of entry, a days worth of work.

It's sad to see any salvageable Beetle taken off the road forever. I'm glad you at ok with it. I'm not.

I have the body, it's the 1974 Bamboo interior panels I'm after. Sadly it looks like map pockets where already removed or missing, so no help to me.

My search continues.

I bet the dogs would have enjoyed a VW Thing better.
