|
|
Hey guys, does anyone know if there are any companies who make a nose bead for a Ghia? I’m not talking about a whole nose section, just the bead, and say, 3 or 4 inches on either side.
Seems like a part that would be in demand, given how many of these get smacked or tapped in that area, and that particular section is particularly hard to pound out and get right. Also, given the crazy costs for shipping these days, if one did have a banged up front end, it would make sense to pound it out and replace that part only.
So, does anyone currently do one? Or am I on to a new business idea here? _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

Yes, I saw that. Awesome work by the way. Your thread actually gave me the notion of replacing just the hard bit. Was hoping there was something ready made that one could buy. Could be a sideline for you!
I was thinking that it would be fairly hard to do, as its a compound curve. Was the tool you made like the VW one I've seen blueprints for? _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

I fashioned my tool after this.
The over all curve of the nose is built into the tool.
I put it in a bench vice and moved the metal strip back n forth as I put a little bit of the shape in with each pass. After a few passes the new strip took shape. |

At one point John Copello was making exactly the piece you are looking for. Don't think he still is though. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I’ve seen that clip before!! Great invention! It seems to have worked really well too.
So when you say you did the strip for your 58 on a bench in the vise, did you use the whole rig you made? Or just parts of it? Any pics of the bench/vice process? _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

no picts. just clamped in the negative part of the die and with one hand moved the metal back n forth and hammered away with the other. The rebar holds the two in place, or you can have a friend move the metal which wound up being much easier. |

My tool looks just like the tool in the video above. There is both a positive and negative part to the tool. |
