Hi All,

I have a 78.4 mm welded stroker crank which I picked up from a reputable vendor, however it won't accept the aftermarket h beam con rods, i.e. there is very little clearance, if any.

He stated that he only used the forged VW con rod, which isn't as thick / wide as an aftermarket h beam.

Does anyone know of a good machine shop in the San Fernando valley or Los Angeles County who skim the rods so there is the right amount of clearance with the crank?

Cheers,
Paul

Are you sure you have compatible parts? Such as vw with vw journals? . I suggest you mic the rod journals on both , rod with bearings and compare. Then make changes if all else fails.

Hi there,

Yes, I checked, they are std vw journals, 55.00 mm. The vendor told me that only the stock rod's would fit, so I have no other choice but to find a machine shop who can skim thousandth's off the rod with so there is clearance.

Cheers,
Paul

Are you talking about side clearance? You can have them machined or sand them down on a sheet of wet & dry sand paper on a piece of glass if it not too much.

It could be rod/crank side clearance or the bearing ridding on the radius of the crank journal.
Put the rod on the crank without the bearing and you should be able to tell what the problem is.

If the manufacturer couldn't get the parts close enough to even bolt together, you didn't want them anyway. Get better parts
