I have a set of sandblasted doors and the previous owner can't remember if they're off a 64 or 65 bug. I have a person interested in them for their 63 bug, but I don't want to sell them a set of doors that won't work on their 63. Can anyone help me out with this issue ?

I believe the main difference is the vent/wing window in slanted on 65 and up doors. I believe the main window opening is slightly larger as well, but I could be wrong. This has been discussed a lot, a quick search will bring up all the differences. I went through this as well, having a 66 bug.

The window is bigger on 65 and up doors. If you put a 65 door on an earlier car and step back you will see the big difference. The quarter window and the door window won't line up. You will be able to see that the quarter window is much smaller.

After her mother hit the driver door of my ex-wife's '65, her dad put an earlier door on it. The door will fit, but as posted, the windows are different.

Not quite GP....

Latch mechanically changed in 67...

65-66 doors will fit earlier bodies but the window size is 25 mm taller than the quarter glass.. .. Looks odd

Thanks everyone. I think I've come to the conclusion that I have a set of 65 doors.

64 is the last year of the "small glass".........and 65 to 67 is the "big glass"......just look at some of the cars in the classifieds like a 63' vs a 66' and compare the vent glass size and u will see how much difference in them there is.

From the forums--here's what an older body looks like with newer doors:
