|

Ok, so I replace my dash with a 911 style fiberglass one and put everything back together for testing and my wipers start turning on on their own (intermittent) while in the off position.
They work as they should in all other positions but will not switch off.
I pulled the ground wire from the relay and now they turn off but no intermittent.
Is my switch bad or is the intermittent relay toast? How can I fault test? |

The wiper "park" circuit is normally grounded through the point where the wiper switch is attached to the dash. Since you replaced the dash with a fiberglass one, there is now no ground for this circuit.
To prove this. Connect a jumper wire to a known good ground, switch the wipers off and touch the ground wire to the wiper switch shaft (or escutcheon). The wipers should now park.

That only applies with the pre 71 setup, the 72 onwards like this use a positive parking system.
Binrat I've had several people come to me with this problem.
its the ground on your steering column housing.
The aircooled intermittent relay uses a ground to keep the int mode off then goes open circuit to turn it on.
Its only a crappy little brass tab under the top left screw, when it loses ground the relay won't turn off. _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

So can it be fixed?
I'll have to pull the steering wheel and have a look for damage |

I would like to resurrect this thread as my intermittent mode appears not functional.
I am sure the relay was wired correctly as it used to turn on to wipe and then stopped for about 5 sec before going thru another cycle.
I did not use the car for a few month and now when I switched on the intermittent mode, it behaves as if it is in its slow mode, no stopping for 5 seconds.
Any ideas? Is the relay fired? |

Certainly sounds like it might be.
you could always pull the relay and bench test it, could just be a bad connection at the fuse box. _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?
