|

I have a 57 oval. I went to remove the gas cap to check and see how much fuel I have, and the gas cap will not budge! I cannot get it to spin off the tank. Anyone experience this and have a way to remove cap without destroying it? Any help would be much appreciated. |

PB Blaster to loosen the rust. Or even better equal parts diesel and acetone, according to tests right here on the Samba it works better than PB Blaster.
That and a great big plumbers wrench. Although there is much cringing as I suggest that wrench, I would sure hate to see you bugger up the tank. |

Why is it stuck? Is it rusted on? Thats doubtful.
It may simply be a case that the tab on the bottom of the cap got bent up and now won't release from it's catch.
Make sure you are applying pressure down on the cap when you try turning it.
And just to make sure, you are turning in the right direction??????
Is there any movement in the cap at all? _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

One thing to consider is a cork gasket, I had a rubber gasket and it was a pain to take the cap off so I was using a strap and it would come off easier but now with a cork gasket It comes off very easy and don't even need the stap. |
