I've been trying to solve a problem with having too much freeplay in steering for my 59.
I've adjust the steering box and it greatly helped, went from what felt like 6 inches of free play down to about 1.5-2. All the freeplay now seems to be before the steering box.
When moving the wheel for freeplay, there is some wiggle room in the bushing that connects the steering box to the fabric coupler dealie AND the fabric coupler. There is supposed to be NO wiggle room at those two points correct? Everything seems to be screwed down tight.
I'm guessing I need new bushing, adapters, couplers etc? What parts should I get for a general "I'd like to sleep better at night" overhaul? |

my problems seem to be at 3, 6 and the perpendicular nut that holds 17 in place. Even though everything is screwed down tight, they wiggle what feels like too much |

Your picture is an exploded view of the steering box's internal parts. #17 is the sector gear and adjustment screw. Is that what you mean?
Have a look here for reference (sorry can't download an image)...

Does this picture show what you need info on? By bushing, do you mean the steering yoke or Flange (part directly below #32 without a number) that fits onto the splined steering box shaft with a pinch bolt? Or the other upper flange that fits onto the steering column? _________________ -Bruce
