The paint code thread
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=527875
Although, with the hightop it may have been painted by whatever company did the conversion, which may or may not be a VW paint colour? Example" Get-away-vans don't always seem to be stock colours... _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

The lighter color is not the same beige as the Wolfsburg Edition. I have that color '84, but I can't remember which color the lighter one is, but since it's not parked close to my house and raining pretty hard, so I'm not going to check right now.
The lighter color in the non-Wolfsburg is a creamier, warmer color tan, while the lighter color in the Wolfsburg is slightly cooler, with almost a hint of gray in it.

Thanks djkeev!
The paper sticker under the dash was gone but from the metal plaque under seat the colors of the 84 two-tone brown tintop (tintop before the Adventurewagon top was added) are;
Merian Brown (LA8A) [T3]
Timor Beige (LH8T) [D6] |

Hey Dave,
What is the chance you have a copy of that brochure!? That is my van, exactly, minus the age over the years.
It lists Merian Brown as the dark color, which I have always been pretty sure that what my dark brown is. The 'Tan' shows in the brochure as Toscana Beige, which I have not seen a color code for. I went to the gti16v page and don't see it. If anyone can chime in that would be great. I sure would like to get my hands on a brochure like that!
Thanks all!

I guess a little more looking produced this:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=527875&highlight=paint+code
This 'says':
Tuscany Beige (LT1M) over Merian Brown (LA8A) with nut brown pop-top ~ Wolfsburg Edition
Toscana or Tuscany Beige? Same thing? Does it matter as long as the actual paint code is right?
Thanks all

Hah! I stumbled upon this searching around just a bit ago. It IS quite interesting! I also found the 84 Wolfsburg Books on eBay and Amazon. Too cool! Gonna have to order a few of those! I see on this link they reference the Beige as "Toscana" I am taking that is a translation thing?
Good to learn about all this stuff!
Thanks!

Toscana is Italian/German for Tuscany. I've edited the paint code list to reflect this. _________________ ~Kamz

unless he is doing the whole Van, he may need to use his 'gun' and match to the faded single-stage Merian paint
my guess is that the tan fades also... _________________ .... |

Yes, I will be doing the whole van eventually. My plan is to work on the lower portion, where it needs the most attention, then going another round on the upper portion when I work with new window seals and possibly a pop top tent, new hardware, etc.
Are people mostly going to a more 'modern' base/clear vs. the single-stage paint? I am sure I can find plenty on here on that subject!
Thanks all for the help!

Single stage is less expensive. I use Nason brand (DuPont).
Also thinking about this: https://www.paintforcars.com/
Google Vibrant Green Plymouth and you will see the guy who used that paint...
But I really need to get these VW's running, stopping, roadworthy before i worry about making them look nice... |
